Nearly 150 years ago, Milwaukee was nationally recognized for its entrepreneurial spirit with start-up companies like Harley-Davidson and Briggs & Stratton. Entrepreneurs are vital to the regional economy, developing new products, innovations and services that generate new wealth and create new jobs.
M7 connects new and growing companies to the resources they need to take their businesses to the next level. M7 supports organizations such as BizStarts, Scale Up and MiKE, which are helping companies start up and grow. Fortunately, there are a growing number of resources for entrepreneurs and start-ups across the region, including:
- MiKE - Innovation in Milwaukee
- Scale Up Milwaukee
- Cluster Industry Accelerators
- M7 Venture Capital Fund
- Tech Transfer / Commercialization
M7 has also launched the “Marshalling our Resources” group to address mentorship, network coordination and access to funding for regional startups. This entrepreneurial support initiative creates a forum to coalesce the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, increase collaboration between support organizations, drive a regional entrepreneurial/innovation strategy, and improve the level of corporate involvement. Supported by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. and its Entrepreneurial Support initiative, the project includes partner organizations BizStarts, BrightStar, The Commons, FaB Wisconsin, gener8tor, MiKE, MWERC, Scale Up Milwaukee, UW-Milwaukee, The Water Council, Wisconsin Super Angel Fund and others.
In addition, M7 works with the Wisconsin Center for Commercialization Resources – a consortium of UW-Milwaukee, Marquette University and the Milwaukee School of Engineering – to improve the commercialization process for academic research and development from these world-class institutions.
